Why Do Gutters Clog?

The gutters on your home need very little maintenance but if you forget to take care of them it can become a big headache.   Let us look closer at what can make this nightmare a reality.

Why Do Gutters Clog?

Why Do Gutters Clog

It’s truly a longer process than it seems. Over time and the seasons wind, wildlife, & trees deposit debris that will mostly get washed away with rain but some on the debris sticks to your gutters and catches other things and it builds up.

The more trees that you have around your home will cause bigger risks for clogging.  It causes more leaves, small animals, and sticks to fall on or in your gutters. If a stick finds its way into your gutter it leads to clogging up your downspouts.  That can get much more difficult to fix.

Another culprit is your gutters becoming loose or being at an incorrect pitch.

What can you do to prevent this from happening?  There are 3 main options:

  1. Clean your gutters or have someone clean them for you at least twice a year.
  2. After cleaning always pour water in your gutters to check for any clogs in your downspouts.
  3. Invest in a gutter guard. Check out the different varieties here!

We do offer a long-term maintenance program and we install gutter guards.
