Race Track For Kids We actually tried this gutter reuse out for ourselves. There is an elementary school across the road from us and they were looking for some gutters to use in their annual field day. So we donated some extra gutters to use in a game they had planned. We donated the gutters and they were used for duck races! The kids loved this game (and the squirt guns). You can find many different variations of this on pinterest to meet any age need. We’ve seen them used for cars, balls and more! Wine Or Other Bottle Rack This is a pretty cool idea especially if you have half round gutters or older wooden gutters. Use them as a wine or bottle rack for your kitchen or where-ever you keep your bottles. It doesn’t have to be a large run of gutter, but we thought this idea was pretty cool! If we remove your old gutters and replace them, we do offer an option to recycle them for you or you can keep them. It’s up to you as a homeowner. The key to a successful 4th of July party is location, and how comfortable your guests are. It doesn’t take a whole lot of work to get your yard in perfect 4th party zone but there are some important steps to getting it ready. Two Days Before 4th of July Party: Clean Those Gutters It’s not technically the season for this, but you know some of you still haven’t done it – when green things are shooting up from your gutters you really shouldn’t put it off anymore! Tidy Up Garden And Lawn Pull weeds and trim up bushes. Remove all lawn ornaments that might cause guests to trip or are in the way. Also if you have pets presents, picking them up before you mow might be a good idea so no one’s shoes get ruined. Straighten Up House Especially The Kitchen And Bathroom The bathroom is the most important room to make sure that it is stocked and clean for guests to use. The Day Before: Mow the Lawn Surprisingly enough it will be much more comfortable for your guests and for cleaning up after the party. Scrub Patio Furniture Make sure all furniture is clean, free of mildew stains, and looking great for your party. Check Your Grill Make sure your grill has plenty of propane, charcoal and that it works! Nothing can ruin a party more than not having a functional grill to enjoy your hamburgers and hot dogs on! A Few Hours Before: Place Chairs And Tables In Inviting Clusters This allows for your guest to have a great seating atmosphere and they will be more likely to stay longer if they are less uncomfortable. Place Tables For Food Make sure to place your tables on a surface that is flat and stable enough that it will not tip or fall back. That could be disastrous. Also this would be a great time to set up the different station for people to get their napkins, cups, utensils, etc. Bug Repellent Candles This is a must. Nothing kills a party more than bugs “bugging” your guests. It might be smart to have a bug repellent station where you have a couple extra bottles of bug spray and invest in some candles like Off Lanterns. The less your guests are being pestered the happier and better it will be. If you follow these few steps you will have less to worry about and more fun which is what having a 4th of July party is all about! Prepare for Memorial weekend Memorial weekend is the time for family get-togethers, graduation parties and cookouts! That brings a lot of traffic to your backyard. There are some things you should make sure are ready before everyone shows up for the hot-dogs and hamburgers. Clean Your Gutters Don’t be embarrassed by having your gutters overflowing with debris from winter and pollen from spring. If you don’t have enough time to think about that give us a call and we’ll be happy to help you get your gutters looking great. Tame That Lawn Mow your grass and prune the shrubs and bushes. That way no one feels like they are on a safari trip walking through your tall grass and looking over your unruly brushes. Clean Your Grill A clean grill is not only nice to look at but it also looks better when you are cooking people’s food on a clean grill instead of a grill with food burnt on the cooking grid from last year. A stiff wire brush and warm soapy water will help you take care of this. It’s also good if the grid is a bit on the warm side. Wipe Down Outdoor Furniture Outdoor furniture can get pretty dirty from being left outside during all seasons. Give them a nice wipe down with warm soapy water and sure that the cushions are nice and dry and not moldy and stinky. It’s also probably a good idea to test out the furniture especially if it’s older to make sure that it can handle someone sitting on it. Wash Walkway And Driveway Wash all the dirt and other messes off of your driveway leaving it looking great and clean for guests when they arrive. Clean Your Pool (if you have one) If you have a pool make sure that you clean it out, sweep out all of the dead bugs, leaves, and dirt that has found its way into your pool these past couple of weeks. Make sure that your pool is also algae-free. Also having plenty of towels and sunscreen will be a nice gesture for guest who forgot something or so they won’t have to pack so much when they stop by. Prepare For Pests We don’t mean the Dennis The Menaces of your neighborhood. We mean the true pests to any backyard cookout…Mosquito’s. There are bug sprays that you can spray on lawn to keep them away but you could use insect-repellent candles and having a few extra bottles of bug spray is nice too. As for ants who want to run away with your food and where you are eating by keeping your food covered, keeping your garbage can covered and keeping the food table away from hedges and trees. Light It Up Add some lights for when it starts to get dark. This will allow people to not rush off and stay to visit. Adding some string lights around the sitting area will be the perfect lighting for conversations. Also make sure you have some lighting around your walkways so no one twists an ankle. There are some great tutorials on mason jar lights, you could use it with either candles or artificial candles. Always Prepare For The Worse Always have a backup plan in case it rains on the day of your party. In Lynchburg it’s suppose to be pretty nice this weekend so most get together’s should be fine, but this could help even with summer BBQ’s. Have your garage or car port or porch cleared off so you can improvise. If you take it inside then make sure that people have a place to put their muddy shoes and coats. Don’t Forget To Decorate A Little Some people like a lot of decoration and some people don’t. If you’re not sure about how to decorate for an outdoor event there are millions of ideas on Pinterest. We have a whole board dedicated to Outdoor Events. You might be inspired. Outdoor BBQ’s can be a blast to host and attend. Just follow a few of our suggestions and it should be a blast for everyone who attends. We just recently finished a pretty big copper gutters job in Appomattox. Since we don’t get the chance to do too many we jumped on this opportunity to take many pictures. Here are a few photos of the job. Before . After The customer was so happy that he wrote us a lovely testimonial(which is featured on the testimonial page)but below is the full testimonial. Greetings from a dark Beijing! Many thanks for the nice work on the Pugh house and White House. Working with a vendor from China is a bit cumbersome – but your customer service and transparency made the process much easier. You instilled confidence in me from Day 1 when we met and this is critical as customers decide between different vendors. Confidence is a form of trust – created by competency and consistency. You did this by showing me examples of your work, you stressed that you were a gutter company only (focused on a single quality product) and you did what you said you would do (returned calls, showed up for appointments and answered questions). Your bid was competitive. The material (as promised) excellent — I examined it closely when I arrived at the Pugh house from China. You are a valuable asset to your field and your company. Importantly you worked well with my agent in the US (Mr Firth) and he is a tough cookie! He was pleased with your work and your attitude. In the end – your work is exemplary. I smiled broadly when I came around the corner and saw it shining in the sun! Many thanks and kind regards from Beijing, Dan” Connect with us for daily inspiration, updates and information: Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest | Instagram

We recently had a question come in about hanging Christmas lights on Gutter Guards. It was a great question to be asked because we only hang lights once a year and they’re typically hung from the gutters. Although if you cover it up with a gutter guard what are you to do? source If you are planning on getting new gutters installed then plan ahead and tell your installer that you plan to hang Christmas lights on your gutters. There is a specific clip that Mastershield suggests that will not void the warranty or damage your product ( if installed correctly). If you have existing, gutter guards and cannot get any clip to work, do NOT tamper with it because you can potentially void your warranty or worse break the gutter guards. If you have the large screen mesh holes then you don’t have to large of a problem because they make screen mesh hooks that fit right into the hole of the guard. Here is a brief video that demonstrates how it works. There are alternatives to hanging lights on your gutters. The first alternative is to hang them from your roof shingles. This has the potential to get wet easier and might make a mess of your shingles or roof depending on how you attach it. Here is a way that we suggest you do this that will be best not to mess it up. To do this you will need to buy shingle clips that attach to the shingle. They are easy to find online or even in the store, just be sure to find ones that will not damage your shingles and that will not fall off easily. The other alternative part is to hang it from your fascia board. This is a little less higher and to be honest a lot safer. You might think that this is too low but be honest with yourself, lights are to be enjoyed at night and how can you really tell where they are truly hanging from in the dark. Here is a way that we think is the best to hang them from your fascia board without messing up anything important to your house’s safety from the weather. You can buy brass cup hooks and spray paint them to blend in with your fascia board. Install the brass cup hooks under the fascia board by drilling small holes for them to fit. Voila, you have an easier accessible place to hang your Christmas lights. It’s not be a total pain in the neck to do once a year. A few other tips that a crucial when preparing to hang Christmas lights. 1. Always untangle and check the lights on the strand. This is so you won’t have to untangle them while on your ladder or so they won’t short and become a potential hazard for a fire to start. 2. It’s best to not do this alone if possible. Having someone help you by handing you supplies will not only make it go by a little faster but also they will be there for your safety. 3. Ladder safety is very important. Make sure that the ground is even, step on the pail shelf or reach further than you can, and that someone holds the ladder for you. 38% of ladder falls happen while hanging Christmas lights. ( source ) 4. Use a timer. This can save you from having a super expensive electric bill or being the Clark Griswald of the neighborhood. (You probably shouldn’t hang your lights like him either, very dangerous.) 5. Don’t over do it. Remember that you do have an electric bill and that could ruin your holiday spirit. Let your home glow this holiday and be safe about it so you can enjoy it.

Are you someone who likes to add that little bit of flair to whatever they do? Or maybe you just enjoy having your personal touch in whatever you do. Give your home a downspout a makeover that can increase your curb appeal and help you take care of your garden in the spring and get rid of blockage in the winter. You’re probably wondering what could do all of these things. Well let me tell you about Rain Chains. What are they you ask? Rain Chains are chains that hang from your gutters where the downspout is, instead of the downspout. Rain Chains originated in Japanese culture more than a 100 years ago. They were used for the practice of Feng Shui and to conserve water for gardening. They have in recent years become more popular with homeowners, they are not the most common product that you see on houses but they sure do get noticed. We’re going to give you 5 reasons that you should try them out and you can be the judge on whether or not you want to give them a try. Adds a lot of curb appeal to your home. Every one wants their home to have curb appeal. It’s almost guaranteed with a rain chain. There are so many possibilities with them. You can go from stones to buckets to specificity made ones. Personal Enjoyment. This is mainly for the nice sound they give off when it rains. If you enjoy sitting on your porch during a summer rain storm. It also moves in the wind and is like a wind chime. Reuse rain water for garden. This is what it was originally created for. You can get a basin and collect the water to reuse for your garden or place your plants underneath it during a rain shower. Easy to Install. The installation of this product is simple. If you buy it online it usually comes with an installation kit. But you can buy the supplies you need at any home improvement store. No blockage in gutters. Since the space is not enclosed the blockage that you’d get with traditional downspout is eliminated. Also ice blockage isn’t possible, and the ice that does freeze on your rain chain is frozen into beautiful intricate designs. Source Things to remember: Rain Chains are not like a downspout which lead the water to a certain spot. You need to put a basin or some kind of water catcher so your foundation won’t receive any damage. Also it’s smarter to leave some of your downspout on the house. Either opt for the front of the house or backyard downspout to be replaced. That way you and/or neighbors ( depending where you choose to place them) can enjoy their beauty. No matter if this is your style or not. Gutters are important for our home. It is a question of what you want your home to look like.
