Pre Fall Gutter Cleaning

Pre Fall Gutter Cleaning Tips

The official first day of fall is in a few days. That means falling leaves, cooler weather and amping up for the holiday season. Don’t let the end of the year get the best of you. Make sure to take care of your gutters. We suggest you clean them at least twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring.  It’s usually best to clean them out after all the leaves have fallen so you don’t have any little stragglers in your gutters causing problems with clogging. We are suggesting a pre fall gutter cleaning to help cleaning your gutters to become an easier task this fall.

Pre Fall Gutter Cleaning

By cleaning out the debris from the summer (though it may not be enough) you make it a lot easier for your gutters to handle the amounts of leaves fall throws at it. This is also a great time to clean the outside of your gutters, giving your home a new shine.

This is the perfect time to add gutter leaf guards to your home ( after cleaning out your gutters of course). It not only prevents you from having to clean debris out of your gutters a month later but it can help your home fight clogs all winter long and you won’t have to worry until Spring.

Pre Fall Gutter Cleaning

If you don’t feel safe on a ladder or maybe you just can’t get up and about like you use to, whatever the reason, give a professional a call. It will probably take them half the time and you’ll be worry-free about what you’re going to do with the debris. Just make sure whoever you hire are licensed and insured such as Gutters & Guards Inc!

Gutter Pitch Repair

Gutter Pitch Repair

Gutters do not sit straight on your home.  They are actually tilted at a certain level, which is called the pitch.  The pitch causes rainwater to flow to the downspout because without that it would lead to standing water. Since gutters settle and this causes screws and brackets to loosen this will change the pitch. Periodically check the pitch and for any loose brackets or screws.  This will help keep your gutters healthy and increase the lifetime to the fullest extent.

Use a ladder to check your gutters and take photos of the problem areas so if you hire someone you can show them exactly what the problem is and how to repair it. We also suggest that if your gutters are in need of maintenance, you should hire a professional because it can be done quicker and there will not be a chance for them to be accidentally broken or for any other accident to occur. If you have gutter guards on your home, we most certainly ask you to hire a professional to do maintenance on them because this can lead to warranty issues.

What Causes : Rain To Overshoot Gutters

Rain To Overshoot Gutters

What causes Rain to overshoot gutters? Rain can be sneaky and cause a lot of problems with your home that you never thought possible. Rain overshoots your gutters it can cause a lot of problems with your home so it’s something that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. A few different reasons that your gutters could be overshooting your gutters (besides that it might be raining really hard).

  • Too much water being forced down the valley on your roof

    • To prevent the amount of water over running your gutters, one of the best options is using an L-shaped piece of metal (the same metal as the gutters) riveted to the top of the outside edge of the gutter at the base of the valley. This vertical piece of metal acts as a barrier, and splits the water coming down the valley and redirects it into the gutter.
What Causes : Rain To Overshoot Gutters

This valley here has the potential for rain water to overshoot the gutter.

  • Water is missing the gutters completely

    • Improperly installed gutters. Too small gutters cause this. You need oversized gutters. Roof pitch is so extreme that roofing material to significantly overhang the gutters. Choose a bigger gutter. This will keep the water from overshooting the gutters entirely.
  • If the water seems to be going half in and half out

    • This can be a issue of the pitch of your gutters.  You should have a professional correct it.

What Causes : Rain To Overshoot Gutters

  • If you have gutter guards and it seems to let water roll right over it.

    • Gutter guards can be tricky since you have to do your research when choosing one. Screen mesh gutter guards seem to be the best when choosing one that lets rain water evenly distribute. If it doesn’t allow a massive amount to slide by.  Whereas curved gutter guards tend to overshoot a little easier when it rains harder.

Rain gutter size are truly determined by the size (sq footage) of your roof and availability for downspouts.
